While many semiconductor customers reduce staff and projected decline in sales, Globalfoundries company is optimistic about the future, a new press release is talking about its decision to expand production capacity with New York factory Fab 8. The so-called Module 1 production complex will expand the areas involved directly in the processing of semiconductor products in 8361 meters  In total, Module 1 Fab 8 will have 27,871 square meters of production space.  Construction of this phase will begin in August and will be completed in December 2013. The expansion of production facilities being built on Fab 8 was made with the expectation of growing demand for contract semiconductors manufacturing.  Special hopes are assigned to the 28 nm process technology.  After starting the production Fab 8 will be able to release about 60,000 silicon wafers per month.  Capacity expansion will require $ 2.3 billion in additional investment.  The construction and equipping of the factory would take $ 6.9 billion since the beginning of construction of Fab 8 in 2009 Globalfoundries gave Americans 1500 work palce , another 4,300 people in one way or another engaged in the construction industry.   Note that Fab 8 in the future will master the production of chips on 20 nm technology using three dimensional layout .  Dresden Fab 1 in the future will be able to produce up to 80,000 wafers per month, including plate size 450 mm.  This factory also will move to 20nm process technology.
