According to Gartner report, Samsung company in 2012, managed to bypass Apple on another criterion.  Samsung Electronics has become the largest consumer of semiconductors in the world.  As you know, the processors for mobile devices Apple are released by Samsung. Market shares are presented in terms of revenue.  In other words, Samsung has spent on the purchase of semiconductors more money than Apple.  The two companies form about 15% of global wires, while the top ten electronics manufacturers account for about 36% of consumption.  The remaining 64% is consumed by smaller players.   Samsung has increased over the year  the acquisition of 28.9% of semiconductors, Apple company  - only 13.6%.  Besides them, the positive dynamics of purchases could show only Sony (+1,9%) and Lenovo (+0,3%).  According to the authors, the growing popularity of tablets and smartphones is not able to compensate for the drop in demand for semiconductors from PC makers, as light mobile devices, semiconductors are less used .  During the year the cost of purchasing semiconductors on the market as a whole declined by 3%.
