Tablet devices continue to steadily advance the personal computer market, resulting in laptop sales in 2013 will be reduced significantly. But Barry Lam , chairman of Quanta Computer, believes that tablets will never completely replace laptops, because they are used as a tool for the job,Mr Lam said that in 2014, a slight decline is expected in notebook shipments.
Sisi Leyun (CC Leung) also noted that the increase in tablet screen diagonal will raise their costs to laptops level , which in turn will make these devices less attractive to consumers. Trying to give laptops size 14-15 inch tablet features like the touch screen is also reflected in the cost and discourage potential buyers.
Add that Quanta is unlikely to fulfill the plan for the shipment of 20 million tablets in 2013, which was announced in April, due to strong price competition from unnamed manufacturers. The new estimate assumes shipments of 15 million tablets.
