MediaTek semiconductor company announced the first SoC based on the latest processor core Cortex-A72. Chip MT8173, built on 28-nanometer process technology and designed for tablets middle class, was shown at Mobile World Congress, which took place a few weeks ago in Barcelona. MediaTek has already prepared a new solution with core Cortex-A72. Its launch will take place in the fourth quarter this year.
According to Fudzilla, MediaTek is preparing to release chips MT679x, which will use a combination of core Cortex-A53 and Cortex-A72. It is not clear which process technology will be made. There can be employed as a 20-nm and 16-nm process FinFET. Apparently, the new single-chip platform will replace the 32-bit chip MT6595, which is one of the most successful solutions MediaTek with high performance.
Meanwhile, analysts Digitimes Research has learned that the South Korean company Samsung Electronics has held talks with MediaTek, discussed possible cooperation. MediaTek will begin shipping its processors for Samsung in the second half of 2015.
