Radeon RX 480 reference design has high TDP that NVIDIA took advantage of the situation to compare it with the GeForce GTX 1060, stating that its graphics in games consumes less than 120 watts versus 185 watts for   competitor product.  As is known ,  Radeon RX 480 power load on the PCI Express slot does not fit the requirements of the standard, and it bothers many consumers who planned crackdown. At least two resources conducted tests with the updated driver Crimson 16.7.1, which not only minimizes  the structure of energy consumption for Radeon RX 480, but also introduced an optional "compatibility mode" .       It should be recognized that the TDP has decreased, and the total power consumption of the graphics card when the "compatibility mode" decreased by 7-10 watts.  But miracles do not happen: it is necessary to  degrade performance for energy savings.  AMD managed to keep the performance drop at 3%.   Associates PC Perspective website found that the new driver is very heavy additional video card power connector, and the load on the PCI Express slot is reduced, although the current strength is still above the prescribed standard 5.5 A.
