This year Intel will start with a statement of intent to become the owner of 15% stake in mapping of assets inherited from the Finnish company Nokia to a consortium of three German automakers. It is noteworthy that one of the mapping shareholders, the company BMW, the US processor giant involved in the development of automatic cars control systems .
In the reporting quarter conference Intel head explained why the company has invested in mapping assets . According to him, the map data will be needed in cars, each of them in the future will be able to transmit up to 4000 GB of heterogeneous information per day. Under these needs adequate server ecosystem require new data centers will be created. Components for them just offers Intel, which is hoping to capitalize on this trend. In addition to large server for map information, the car of the future will require a lot of "local servers".
The average user in 2020 will generate up to 1.5 GB of data on a daily basis, and wearable devices and other participants of the "Internet of Things" market will block this amount several times. Intel had already made it clear that in the automotive electronics segment does not seek to take the place on the market of end devices, preferring to operate in a niche of server and telecommunications infrastructure. For the latter, it is actively promoting 5G network.
