ARM Company announced the termination of advance licensing fees for the use of Cortex-M0 and Cortex-M3 cores by developers. Henceforth, developers of controllers and processors based on Cortex-M3 will pay deductions only after the commencement of commercial deliveries of solutions on these cores, which allows reducing the cost of entering the market and eliminating other risks. The Cortex-M0 cores have been participating in the program since 2010. The program is called ARM DesignStart. From
now on, as mentioned above, you will not have to buy a license to develop solutions with Cortex-M3 cores. At the same time, developers will freely use all available materials and tools, and customers without their specialists will be able to simply order from ARM a "chip" with the necessary characteristics.
To date, around 20 billion controllers and assemblies on the Cortex-M0 and Cortex-M3 cores have been sold worldwide. The program ARM DesignStart has allowed to join the community several hundred new developers. ARM expects that the popularity of the Cortex-M0 and Cortex-M3 cores, as well as the DesignStart program, will pave the way to the market for more than one trillion devices, including things connected to the Internet.
