Altera company is going to use TSMC for manufacturing solutions FPGA (field programmable gate array, FPGA) technology with 16 nm FinFET +. Previously it was thought that the contractor of Altera will be Intel company , and the chip will be made on 14-nanometer technology Tri-Gate.
It is reported that Altera decision is due to the delay with Broadwell processors at least until the fourth quarter of this year. Apparently, Intel has problems not only with unsold inventory processors Haswell, but also with the development of thin production technology, which should be used for making Broadwell generation .
Meanwhile, TSMC has raised the standard yield crystals for 20-nm to 50%. This means that in the near future the company will be able to accept orders for the mass production of the respective products.
