Exposure to Japanese company TDK exhibition CAETEC not limited to samples of non-volatile memory such as STT-MRAM. The company has promised that at the end of 2015 or beginning of 2016 there will be the hard drives capacity up to 15 TB. TDK drives itself does not produce, but it remains the leading technology provider for companies Seagate and Western Digital.
TDK offers the use of magnetic recording (HAMR) to increase the density of data. The basic idea is to use a laser HAMR for local heating memory at the time of its magnetization reversal. Heating can significantly reduce the minimum size of the region, preserving data bits.
Initially, the largest manufacturers of hard disk drives were planning to start production of HAMR technology in 2010-2013, but subsequently transfer technology commercialization was delayed for a considerable period of time - until 2020. It seems, TDK has found a solution that will make HAMR suitable for mass application earlier.
