Global financial services company is now testing a contactless MasterCard payment card with built-in fingerprint scanner that will eliminate the input PIN-code. A prototype of the unique cards, developed in conjunction with the Norwegian company Zwipe, was presented on Friday in London.
Contactless payment card has a built-in fingerprint sensor. It is argued that all biometric cardholder data is stored only on the card, rather than in an external database. And to increase the security of payments carried out using chip EMV, which is used in the European payment plastic cards instead of magnetic stripe. Due process fingerprint authentication new card has no restrictions on the size of contactless payments.
Featured on Friday prototype thicker than regular payment card because it has a battery. But Zwipe representatives reported that they are currently working on the creation of the final model card to be as thin as the standard plastic cards. Its output is planned for next year.
Norwegian bank Sparebanken DIN already tested the card, created in collaboration with Zwipe and plans in the future to offer to all holders of its card services biometric authentication and contactless payments.
