In the old days, Civilization series games were very different from each other and had the moral right to be called new projects. The last time this rule was applied in Civilization V, the leading game designer of which was talented guy John Shafer. Few people know, but at the time of the Civilization V release, Shafer was only 25 years old.
Soon, Shafer left the Firaxis studio and joined Stardock (the authors of Galactic Civilizations), and for further development and game design of large additions to Civilization V took Ed Beach. It is thanks to Ed Beech, however, Civilization V has acquired a complete and worthy appearance, albeit with crutches at every turn. In Civilization VI, unfortunately, the developers under the guidance of the Beach were afraid to make serious and "tasty" changes, but this is a story for another material.
In 2013, John Shafer organized his own business and began working on a global strategy called At the Gates. And now, today the guys from Paradox announced that Shafer joined their friendly team and will develop a new global strategy. Shafer is appointed as the project manager and can select the necessary and sensible, in his opinion, cadres. But from the work on his own project At the Gates, no one will tear it away.
Given that Civilization V at one time was a breakthrough - there were city-states, there was a limit on the number of units on the cell, the cells themselves were transformed and became hexagonal, and so on - there is hope that Paradox will have an excellent global strategy, and it is desirable Historical, for competition with Civilization.
