At the Google I / O conference that was launched on May 17, the company's representatives said that by the end of the year a fully autonomous headset would be presented for immersion into virtual reality. Information about this in the form of rumors began to seep into the Network more than six months ago. At the same time, Google does not plan to independently produce self-contained helmets and glasses. This will be a reference device, the production of which can be adjusted by all those who wish.
Over the project of an autonomous VR-headset, the company worked together with Qualcomm, HTC and Lenovo and, although there are no details, it's easy to assume that the Qualcomm platform (obviously Snapdragon 835) will be based on the standalone headset. On the market, Google's VR device, which does not require a separate smartphone or PC for its operation, will appear before the end of this year. The device specifications and its estimated cost are not disclosed.
Also, the company will continue to support third-party devices (smartphones) for the Daydream View platform. This is a proprietary Google case for $ 80 to install third-party smartphones. At the start Daydream View was officially compatible with the Pixel smartphone. This summer, Google cases will support smartphones Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus, and in the fall promised to support the flagship smartphones of LG Electronics.
