Update of the lineup of 3.5-inch hard drives by Western Digital Corp. reached the WD Red and WD Red Pro lines. Models WD Red is recommended to use for storages with a network connection with a number of compartments up to 8 pieces. WD Red Pro accumulators aim at baskets with a number of compartments up to 16 pieces. The first will be convenient for ordinary users and small companies, while the latter are targeted at mid-level companies.
Another noticeable difference is the different spindle rotation speed and, consequently, different performance. The WD Red models feature a spindle speed of 5400 rpm, and the WD Red Pro models guarantee a spindle speed of 7200 rpm. New flagship models in both lines have become novelties, the capacity of which has been increased from 8 TB to 10 TB. To achieve this capacity, it was required to install more plates: 8 pieces, apparently, although the company does not specify the model specifications
yet. Let's add, it became possible due to the filling of the hermetic block with the helium plates instead of using usual air mixture. This implementation is already the fourth generation of HelioSeal technology.
Deliveries of 10-TB of new products will begin in late May. The recommended price for the 10-terabyte WD Red model in the US is $ 494, and the recommended price for a 10-TB version of WD Red Pro is $ 533. In both cases, the drive interface is SATA 6 Gbps, and the cache buffer is 256 MB. They can easily be connected locally as part of a standard PC. Related Products :
