Some time ago, Intel talked about the middle of 2017 as a likely period for the announcement of the new Xeon Phi accelerators of the Knights Mill generation, which will be manufactured using 14-nm technology. This week it was finally clear that the company will start mass production of Knights Mill only in the fourth quarter of this year, and the recent price cuts for existing Xeon Phi accelerators are not a sign of the proximity of the successor announcement.
Intel Corporation explained that Knights Mill accelerators in single-precision operations will be able to outperform predecessors by a factor of two in terms of speed, and for this, new sets of QFMA and QVNNI instructions will be introduced.
