The global conspiracy against long distance truck drivers has been ripening for a long time. Daimler is testing autopilot on trunk tractors, European commercial vehicle manufacturers are already driving common caravans of prototypes that could be attached to the driving column for vehicles to save fuel. Even Tesla is preparing to announce an electric truck this fall, and "pocket" developer of automatic main tractors Otto has grown company Uber. Finally, in cooperation with American
truck manufacturers, NVIDIA is also caught.
Waymo, which separated itself from Google some time ago, also does not hide its plans to develop an autopilot for trucks, but only now the resource Jalopnik managed to get hold of the first photos of the prototype of a trunk tractor with a semi-trailer equipped with equipment typical for all vehicles with autopilot. On the roof of the tractor there is a cross-beam with an optical radar ("lidar") and ultrasonic sensors. The front bumper is also equipped with radar.
This angle does not allow you to judge which sensors are placed on the semitrailer, but there is no doubt that they will also be required for full-scale testing. The Waymo logo is also visible onboard the tractor unit, which is manufactured by Peterbilt, and is certainly equipped with an automatic transmission. Related Products :
