This disk imaging software is a powerful, versatile tool and can restore a copy to a single computer or to several computers at once. Acronis True Image performed the best of all the disk imaging programs we evaluated for imaging—this software was fast, error–free and fairly simple to use. However, Acronis cannot backup specific files and folders; for this task you need backup software. Acronis True Image Screenshots. Click to Enlarge     Feature set:   With Acronis True Image, you have all the options for making images—exact copies of data a hard disk—and more. Scheduling automatic backup times for an image is easy, and images can be incremental—that means you can choose to backup only data that has changed since the previous backup to save time. If you need to do more than simply copy data, you can format, partition and even delete a hard drive right from the Acronis control panel. Putting data back onto a hard drive for use (disk deployment) is simple too–just a few steps, and the data is back in action. You can even restore individual files from an image. However, Acronis True Image cannot backup specific files and folders. The Acronis True Image viewer can open an image you’ve created as a local drive by assigning it a drive letter (such as D:). This means you can view and access copied files and folders conveniently. Ease of use:   The imaging control panel is designed for anyone; help wizards walk you through each step of disk imaging, and you can reach help or online support from the control panel menu or a help button. This imaging software is versatile; Acronis is one of few imaging programs with tools that securely delete sensitive data with several passes. Completely deleting data is important if you are selling or donating a computer that was used to store personal financial information. Acronis True Image can restore an image to multiple computers at the same time. And Acronis True Image can skip copying bulky hibernation and paging files, allowing for faster backups on smaller disk space. The program also includes a log viewer so you can watch activities of your system as they occur. We ran into a glitch when attempting to create an image to CD—we received an error message. If Acronis True image would have provided more information in the error message, we could have fixed the problem faster. Backup/Restore Process:   Unlike other disk imaging products, the process of creating a copy in Acronis True Image is an easy, one-step task. Just use the wizard tools and follow the instructions to get the image you want. We created an image of our hard drive directly to a network drive in less then 20 minutes by imaging just the necessary files. When we created an exact image of a full 34–gigabyte hard drive to a CD-ROM, the process took about 70 minutes—both brief copy times. Acronis True Image didn’t balk at creating images to a network, as some disk imaging programs did. We appreciated this versatility. Help/Support:   Acronis True Image customer support is top–notch; when we filled out a technical request, we received an answer within two hours. Telephone customer support is available too. The Acronis website offers links to FAQ pages, online forums and a link to subscribe to the newsletter. You must install Adobe Acrobat Reader in order to read the software help files, but this is a free download. Summary: Acronis True Image is versatile and powerful, yet fairly easy to use. The program includes wizards that walk you through each task, and you can connect to help files and customer support with just one click on the control panel. Best of all, Acronis True Image copies and restores hard drive data with precision accuracy faster than most disk imaging software. Paragon Drive Backup 7.0   Disk Image   Paragon Drive Backup 7.0 by Paragon Software Group is the "TopTenREVIEWS Silver Award Winner" This disk imaging software is brimming with features and tools to create an exact image of your hard drive and other utility tasks. The only faults we found with Paragon Drive Backup were that the program was less automated than Acronis True Image and copying to CD is a challenge Feature set:   Paragon Drive Backup 7.0 lets you schedule regular backups at startup, logon, daily, weekly or monthly.   This program can also format or delete a drive.   This is ideal when creating an exact copy of your drive, because you must format the receiving drive before copying.   Ease of use:   Paragon’s Drive Backup is more challenging to use than our top disk imaging software choice, Acronis True Image. You must choose what to do after setting up a backup image project. Instead of a wizard to guide you, Drive Backup requires several steps to complete the task; it’s easy to forget to choose the next step and wonder why your backup hasn’t begun. Also, when we tried to create an image of our hard drive to a CD, we received an error that the CD was already in use. Paragon Drive Backup offered options, but none worked. When we tried the reboot option, the program started the backup before Windows startup.   In short, we didn’t succeed. That’s why we feel this program may be too difficult for a novice to understand and use. Backup/Restore Process:   During the testing stage, we also attempted to create a backup image to a local drive, network drive, and a CD-ROM.   Drive Backup 7.0 did well creating a backup image of our C: drive to a network drive and a local drive, but we were never able to create an image to a CD-ROM.   Help/Support:   Paragon Drive Backup 7.0 offers a knowledge base online, email support, and a phone contact number, but it is an international call.   The help file provided with Drive Backup 7.0 allows you to view general help files and search for a particular word or phrase.   However, Paragon Drive Backup 7.0 doesn’t offer automatic updates.   Summary: Paragon Drive Backup 7.0 is a complete disk imaging tool for backing up to another drive, network, or storage media.   The program is also designed to configure and upgrade your data to a new drive.   The novice, however, would require extra time to learn the advanced features.   If you want a disk imaging tool that’s simpler to operate, consider True Image 8.0.   Norton Ghost   Disk Image   Our "TopTenREVIEWS Bronze Award Winner" Norton Ghost 9.0 by Symantec, has a well-rounded feature set and can perform basic computer utility functions as well as disk imaging, but the selling point for Norton is that it’s easy for anyone to use.   Norton Ghost wasn’t our top pick because it doesn’t offer as many utility features as Acronis True Image—for example, you can’t partition and format drives—but Norton does offer a good variety of quality tools for disk imaging.   Feature set:  Norton lets you limit the number of backups saved for each drive, and you can choose to copy only the clusters and sectors that contain data or the entire drive.   Once you’ve used Norton Ghost to create an image, you can do a hot backup in Windows—this was convenient.   If you’re on a network, you can request an email notice whenever there is any major activity taking place with your backup—a security measure if you don’t have the backup secured with a password.   While Norton has some impressive abilities, we were disappointed that the software is limited when it comes to creating, formatting, or deleting a partition or drive.   You’ll have to purchase additional utility products for these tasks, such as Disk Partitioning Magic.   Both programs are packaged together and sold as the Norton System Works Suite.   Ease of use:   Each function of the control panel has brief description, and Norton Ghost has a simple, wizard-based control panel to help beginners find their way around.   Those with disk imaging experience can get up to speed quickly on Norton’s offerings with the advanced view, which reveals more detail.   The program also has tabbed views of backup history and other events for easy reference.   The latest version of Norton Ghost works only with newer Windows operating systems, so if you use Windows 98 or an older version you can’t use Norton Ghost 9.0.   Instead, you must install Norton Ghost 2003 (which comes with the Norton Ghost 9.0 boxed product).   Backup/Restore Process:   Norton Ghost does a fine job creating a disk image and did particularly well imaging to CD, where other disk imaging products stumbled.   We created a backup to about a dozen CDs in 43 minutes and a backup to a network drive in 19 minutes.   Norton Ghost estimates the time remaining for the backup, but does not break down the backup or offer more in-depth information during the process like some disk imaging programs do.   Restoring the backup using Norton is more tedious then with most disk imaging software.   The system restore disk is slow and we had trouble restoring an image from a network drive.   The program required a user name and password, yet had not provided a screen for us to enter these earlier.   We did, however, like the convenience of restoring individual files or folders directly from Windows—restoring the entire image isn’t required.   Help/Support:   Norton Ghost has some excellent recourse files.   The program offers a startup tutorial upon installation, and control panel links that explain topics like backing up your drive, restoring files and more.   From the Norton website, you can check the extensive knowledge base, fill out a free online customer support form and check for free updates.   Norton offers a separate email support address, but this is difficult to find.   Also, Norton charges a pricy fee for telephone customer support.   Summary: Norton Ghost is an excellent disk imaging program.   When it come to thinking about customer, Norton Ghost makes finding answers about their disk imaging process simple and easy.   Norton can save you time and resources by allowing incremental backups, and the program is versatile.     xtreview is your : Video card -
