Recently TSMC company issued a press release in which it announced the launch of the first workable silicon 16-nm SoC-assembly that implements the technology ARM Big.Little. According to ARM development , it creates "smart" hardware and software, the combination of performance and energy efficiency of processing cores. In the case of heavy loads, works the core, memory, and the transition to the background and other minor work load falls on the shoulders of energy-efficient
cores.
Technology ARM Big.Little became incarnate in real solutions to the end of 2012. Apple has adopted a series of implementing their orders by TSMC company. Taiwanese contract manufacturer in fact proved that it is able to grow more quickly than was expected .
So, the new fruit of TSMC and ARM partnership began Big.Little-assembly of two productive cores on a 64-bit architecture Cortex-A57 and two energy-efficient cores on Cortex-A53, it was released using 16-nm process technology and FinFET transistors (16FF). Cortex-A57 were able to work at a frequency of 2.3 GHz, and the core Cortex-A53 confirmed the low power consumption of 75 mW at a "typical" load. But that's not all. Over the next two or three months, the company will release
the same TSMC test chip using advanced process technology 16FF +. It is expected that the improved process technology under the same rules allow 11% to raise the performance Cortex-A57 cores without increasing consumption, and reduce by 35% the consumption of core Cortex-A53 without reducing performance.
