Rambus company  acted badly, to offer the community the memory interface, secretly protected by patents, which allowed it to eventually twist arms to all memory manufacturers, without exception. Today, IT-industry came to a stage when they begin to introduce new types of memory.  Firstly, it is memory with ultra-wide bus access - HBM (HMC version Micron).  Secondly, the so-called Cross-or resistive nonvolatile memory type ReRAM memory memristor, HP.  ReRAM memory has the potential to replace the RAM.  Also, the role of memory claims magnetoresistive memory, including spin memory STT-MRAM.  Knowing the appetite of Rambus, it will certainly try to ride the new directions.
