According to leaked online documentation for developers reported that Nintendo Switch will use commercially available 20-nm technology adapted version of processor Tegra X1 with the graphics system Maxwell generation. Four processing cores with ARM Cortex-A57 architecture can operate at frequencies up to 2 GHz, and graphics system has 256 stream processors with frequency up to 1 GHz. At least, these processors were equipped with pre-production prototypes Nintendo Switch.
Why video game console Nintendo has received processor with the conservative characteristics? First, the processor revision by Nintendo needs took time. Secondly, the latest processors Tegra too much focused on the use in vehicles, and Nintendo is trying to create a portable gaming console. Finally, it could interfere with the technological and cost factors: 20-nm processors NVIDIA could offer Nintendo in large quantities and at a lower cost than today's 16-nm.
Note that 4 GB of shared memory, which is equipped with a Nintendo Console Switch, for the needs of the application are available only 3.25 GB. Interestingly, of the four processor cores of computing, developers of games and applications available only three cores - however, this may be a feature of the prototype, not serial product.
