On a wave of interest in AMD Ryzen processors, Linux operating system users detected one defect, which caused the application crash under certain rather rare conditions. The defect was called "segfault", as it related to segmentation. EPYC and Ryzen Threadripper processors, based on another stepping, were protected from this defect initially, and AMD recommended that owners of "unsuccessful" Ryzen copies contact technical support for a free processor replacement.
Colleagues from the site Tech Report summed up the first results of this campaign, and after talking with representatives of the profile communities came to the conclusion that the AMD Ryzen processors released after the 25th week of this year are devoid of this defect, which very rarely manifested itself in operating systems of the Linux family. The representative of the resource Phoronix checked this statistics on his own Ryzen 7 1800X, and also summarized the impressions of other users. In addition, he was convinced that the AMD Ryzen processors released from the middle of June in the same "dangerous" conditions from the segmentation defect do not suffer.
