The Taiwan resource DigiTimes yesterday issued another publication related to the fate of the virtual reality device Asustek, which should enter the market in the third quarter this year.
It is assumed that this will be a self-contained helmet of virtual reality, which will not require a computer or a smartphone to work. Taiwanese sources say that the production of new items will start in the third quarter, and Samsung has already been selected as a supplier of a key component - displays, which in this case will be AMOLED type, following the example of the Oculus VR product. The assembly of the Asustek device will be handled by Taiwan contractors. The company is shifting to this direction the resources that are released in the tablet segment.
Demand for AMOLED-displays from manufacturers of devices of virtual reality has already led to the fact that prices since the beginning of this year are continuously growing. There is a shortage of these components, but Asustek certainly has some advantages in negotiations with Samsung. In addition to Asustek, interest in creating their own virtual reality devices is shown by HP, Dell and Acer, the latter partnering with Microsoft in the creation of augmented reality product that will be used by software developers since March this year. Taiwanese sources say that Samsung Gear VR's virtual reality glasses remain the most commercially successful product in its category - over four million copies were sold in the past year.
