Samsung company announced today two new hard disk families: SpinPoint M5 and SpinPoint MP1.

The first series is designed for installation in everyday electronics devices . Those HDD has the form factor 2.5 inch with capacity from 60 to 160 Gb. Furthermore to buyers will be proposed double-disk models with capacity 250 Gb.

In spinPoint M5 is used the technology perpendicular record (PMR). Producer reports, that he succeeded in reducing the weight of hard disks by 4%, ( 94,83 g ).

Samsung speaks about 15% superiority of its series over analogs in noise level . Furthermore, SpinPoint M5 consume 5% less energy than analogous in volume models.

Samsung SpinPoint M5 characteristics :

Rotation Speed: 5400 rp/min
Interface: SATA ( PATA disks will be released during May)

Buffer: 8 mb.

Samsung SpinPoint M5 mass production will starts in the middle of April.

Samsung SpinPoint MP 1 is this the high performance disks with form factor 2.5 inch for industrial application ( in work stations, blade- servers, etc). its maximum capacity is 200 Gb, and rotation speed - 7200 rp/min.

SpinPoint MP1 also use the technology PMR with SATAII Interface.

Those new disk will be equipped with additional vibrations protection (rotation vibration controller, RVC) and optional - drop sensor .

Samsung spinPoint MP1 mass production will starts during May.
