Intel x38 chipset yesterday appeared in the production list on producer official site  , But here Intel partners already some time ago obtained this chipset , and the corresponding motherboards are already ready. Delay with the official chipset announcement was caused by Intel desire to improve the motherboard BIOS . We should note that DDR-2 support  is proclaimed by intel x38 chipset officially,  it was considered that such chipset will support only DDR- 3. Intel x38 support ECC function for DDR 2-800, which allow them to be used in work stations. The total volume of supported memory is limited to 8 Gb. Although Intel x38 officially support only DDR 3-1333 and 1333 MHz system bus, motherboard producers  are ready to realize the support of DDR 3-1600 and 1600 MHz system bus. Officially the support of these regimes will be proposed by intel x48 chipset  , whose announcement was reported to the second-half of the first quarter 2008. The chipset Intel x38 support the technology flex memory , which allow to unite in the dual-channel regime different volume modules  . No one forces motherboard producers to realize the support of two slots PCI express x 16-  it is possible to be limit to one. But The support of 32 lines PCI express stimulates the installation of two valuable slots PCI express x16. This will be the first Intel chipset , which supports PCI express 2.0. Motherboard producers can use six lines PCI express, supported by the south bridges series ICH9, and also six channels PCI. Six ports SATA-300 support regimes RAID 0, 1, 5 and 10,  also the ports multipliers and the external eSATA interface  . Let us note that x38 chipset allow to disconnect from the BIOS any SATA ports. The TDP level of intel x38 chipset is 26,5 W with DDR3 memory . Passage to DDR-2 increases the TDP value , since DDR2 memory works with higher voltage.
